US$759M Natural Gas Plant slated to decarbonise energy sector

On Tuesday, the Government of Guyana and CH4/LINDSAYCA inked a historical agreement for the construction of the integrated Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) plant and the 300-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant at Wales, West Coast Demerara (WCD), Region 3. CH4 Group offers engineering, construction and procurement solutions primarily, providing expertise in major electric power, oil, gas, petrochemical, mining and infrastructure markets. LINDSAYCA, delivers specialised and integrated hydrocarbon solutions to the energy, industrial and national infrastructure. This contract, signed at the Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive was witnessed by His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo; and Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips. According to His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, “This is the largest project that we would have embarked on as a country and that brings with it its own challenges but it also gives us an opportunity to build capacity.” In alignment with the Low Carbon Development Strategy, the aim of this project is to sustain clean electricity, livelihoods through cheaper utility costs, and will work in conjunction with the gradual completion of the Amaila Falls hydropower project to essentially supply electricity at approximately half of the total costs.
