Trade facilitation expected as direct flights to Jamaica are considered
Jamaica and Guyana enjoy a harmonious relationship as the value-added sectors continue to grow. According to the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Jamaica and Guyana are strategically placed to export to each other and to North America, especially with port expansion plans in the works. Vice President of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Richard Coe, stated that Jamaica’s Port of Kingston is accessible for the transshipment of goods from Guyana, though still in discussions. To concur, Chairman of the Airports Authority of Jamaica, Mark Hart, is assured that the accommodating Guyanese business climate is welcoming of Jamaicans who are supportive of direct flights. The business delegation mentioned its technical expertise in airport management and is of the utmost willingness to lend assistance within the travel and business arena. Following the last quarter, this is Jamaica’s second instance where a delegation has expressed active interest in strengthening investor relations. In both visits, each business delegation was led by Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill.
