Tourism industry flourishing as 15 new products to be added to market
This year, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) is anticipated to introduce 15 new tourism products as market assessments are being conducted in several regions. According to Kamrul Baksh, Director of GTA, eco-tourism products have been identified thus far, such as Great Falls in Upper Demerara-Berbice; Region Ten, perfect for weekend getaways. The aim of the tourism industry in Guyana is to promote inbound and outbound tourism, as the Guyana Tourism Authority is committed to creating accessibility for international tourists and domestic visitors to explore Guyana’s beauty. For over two-and-a-half years, the GTA has launched 27 tourism products, many of which include experiential travel and adventure tourism. Among the development of these products is a project within Bartica to support the tourism sector primarily in the Essequibo Region. The investments made into the local tourism industry is one that focuses on cultural dimensions and preservation of heritage which surrounds respect to communities. In turn, opportunities are availed to local entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services on national platforms and international trade expositions, aiding in career sustainability, income generation and further, economic growth.
