Sustainable Solutions in Focus: Guyana Set to Host Caribbean Wastewater Conference
Guyana is eagerly preparing to host the much-anticipated Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) 32nd. Annual Conference and Exhibition, which is slated to occur from October 23 to 27, 2023. Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, along with Permanent Secretary Andre Ally, were briefed on the event's preparations on Monday at the Housing Ministry's Brickdam office. Minister Croal conveyed his excitement for the conference and assured that the Guyanese government is wholeheartedly dedicated to ensuring its triumph by providing full support. The Cabinet has given its endorsement for Guyana to host the upcoming conference, according to Minister Collin Croal. He expressed the government's eagerness to use this opportunity to showcase the country's initiatives. The minister emphasized the importance of waste management and the need to address this issue effectively. Minister Croal highlighted that the conference will serve as a valuable platform for experts, stakeholders, and government officials to exchange knowledge and explore innovative solutions for the challenges faced in the Caribbean region. He emphasized that focusing on waste management is crucial for Guyana's progress as a modern and developed nation. Acknowledging the diligent efforts of the local planning committee, led by CWWA President and GWI Executive Director of Projects, Lt Col Marlon Daniels, Minister Croal commended their work in organizing the event. Daniels, during his presentation, expressed anticipation for the conference to be one of the largest, with an estimated participation of around 300 delegates, including Caribbean government ministers and local and international investors. Furthermore, Daniels revealed that approximately 100 booths will be on display, showcasing a wide range of industry advancements and solutions, making the conference a valuable platform for networking and showcasing innovations in the field. The conference and exhibition will promote Guyana as a tourism destination and offer investment opportunities, according to Daniels. The event will be held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel and focus on the theme "Accelerating Change in the Water, Wastewater, and Solid Waste Sectors."
