Petronas and Exxon's Block 52 Discovery strike Oil Bonanza Offshore Suriname
Petronas Suriname proudly heralds a momentous oil discovery at the Roystonea-1 exploration well within Block 52. This remarkable feat was achieved through a drilling operation conducted in the offshore expanse, positioned approximately 185 km. distant from the coastal periphery and situated at an impressive water depth of 904 m. The Roystonea-1 well achieved an astounding total depth of 5315 m., and Petronas envisions that this discovery will be a cornerstone in its international upstream initiatives. A comprehensive and in-depth analysis is currently underway to delineate the full scope of this discovery and to explore opportunities with the Sloanea-1 discovery which was made in the same block in 2020. The corporation has affirmed its continued collaboration with the host authority, Staatsolie, and its partners in order to unlock the extensive hydrocarbon potential within Suriname. Block 52, which encompasses an expansive area of 4749 square km., strategically occupies the northern expanse off the coast of Paramaribo, Suriname's capital, situated within the promising Suriname-Guyana basin. Petronas Suriname E&P, in its capacity as the block's operator, maintains a commanding 50% participating interest, while ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Suriname B.V. retains the remaining 50%. In addition to Block 52, Petronas Suriname exercises operational control over Block 48 with an exclusive 100% participating interest, alongside a non-operating 30% participating interest in the contiguous Block 53, where the remarkable Baja-1 oil discovery was unearthed in 2022.
