Integrated Customs Management System to accelerate clearance process

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), in collaboration with the ports of Georgetown, have amalgamated their systems and procedures across an online Integrated Customs Management System. This successful merge ensures greater delivery of cargo services and travel as well as better intensified security measures. On Wednesday, Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, and Commissioner General of the GRA, Godfrey Statia, commended the newly introduced pre-payment system as they had trodden the John Fernandes and the Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNIC) wharves. With the new scanner technology included, Dr. Singh detailed, ““We have introduced systems and methodology within GRA with the objective of deploying technology and data for more efficient customs operations and import transactions.” Further, Dr. Singh praised the scanner technology for its efficiency in speeding up the clearance process, with less packages and inspections needed to undergo stringent inspections and contact between the customs officials and the importers. According to the GRA, 80% of imports are flagged green, essentially referring to most cargo as free or low-risk, further assessed by risk profiling and risk management.
