Guyana represented at Global Investors Summit 2023 in India
Guyana, an emerging global leader in energy, human resources and technology was represented at the 7th. edition of the Global Investors Summit in Madhya Pradesh at the heart of India. This eagerly awaited event was aimed at promoting and showcasing the growth potential, investment climate and infrastructure of the State and international partners. Guyana’s expansive footprint across the Caribbean region and by extension the Western Hemisphere, and Asia among other partners, led to the encouragement of the Guyana government to engage the administration of India to pursue with vigour, local investment opportunities. In that, H.E. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali stated, “India, you are positioned in a way better than others to be the leader in the vision of these services to support the ecosystem, and I invite you to look at the opportunities as they exist in positioning yourself as the strongest player in providing human resource, capacity, capability, and competence in servicing these industries in the region.” Just yesterday, the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) and Indian company Mehidpurwala Furnishers Pvt. Ltd. (MFP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to add value to the furniture manufacturing industry in Guyana which will see authentic Guyanese hardwood species being used in construction. Also signed earlier today was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Durable Wood Products Inc. (DWP) and EMC Energy Inc., two Guyanese companies, with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) India. This will provide oversight to the implementation of a 1.5 MW wood waste-based power generation through the gasification route for energy consumption in DWP production operations and excess power to the national grid. These local investment opportunities follow the mandate of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), enhancing competitiveness of the Guyanese business segment, and ensuring green sustainability.
