Guyana recognized as global exemplar in the conservation of the natural environment by UK Minister of State

Guyana's endeavors to safeguard its unspoiled forests and natural resources have earned it international recognition, owing to its exceptionally low deforestation rates. With a forest cover of more than 87%, Guyana possesses one of the world's most commendable forest management systems. Zac Goldsmith, the UK's Minister of State in charge of Overseas Territories, the Commonwealth, Energy, Climate, and Environment, has hailed these initiatives as a benchmark for nations worldwide. Accompanied by Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat and British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, Minister Goldsmith commented on these matters during a two-day trip to Region Nine (Upper Takutu - Upper Essequibo) communities. According to the UK Minister, “If we’re going to solve the issue of climate change, yes, we need technology, we need clean energy, we need clean transport, we need all those things but we can never solve climate change if we don’t repair our relationship with the natural world.” The high-ranking UK government representative also mentioned that they are exploring prospects in Guyana to enhance the bond between the developing country and the UK. He further stated that they aim to support Guyana's conservation efforts and acquire knowledge from them, which can also aid neighboring countries. Additionally, they intend to apply these lessons to their own country.
