Guyana and Ghana Forge Stronger Ties through Chamber of Commerce Launch, Boosting Bilateral Relations
The recent launch of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce-Guyana at Church and New Garden Street in Queenstown, Georgetown has significantly bolstered the bilateral relations between Guyana and Ghana. This chamber serves as a platform to facilitate business connections and promote investment, which will contribute to the local economic growth. Notably, this initiative marks the first of its kind in the Caribbean region, showcasing the commitment of Guyana and Ghana to collaborate in various sectors such as oil and gas, tourism, agriculture, education, sports, and health. Furthermore, the establishment of this chamber has prompted Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, to urge the Ghanaian Government to cooperate with the Guyana government in implementing the air services agreement signed between the two nations in 2019. This step will facilitate smoother air travel operations and strengthen the overall partnership between the countries. The Minister expressed that the signing of an air services agreement with Ghana is an important step, and it now falls upon the private sector in both countries to establish an airline that adheres to the terms, conditions, and freedoms outlined in the agreement. The establishment of the chamber is just a part of the government's broader efforts to cultivate trade relationships with nations across various continents. Representing Ghana, the Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Kobina Hammond, emphasized that having a solid presence in Guyana allows business professionals to concentrate on key areas for mutual development between the two countries. The Ghanaian Minister stressed the significance of commerce, trade, industrialization, and the development of both countries. He emphasized the necessity of establishing trading relationships between nations, as it is not feasible to produce and retain all products within a single country. Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, the CEO of Guyana Invest, expressed his belief that this endeavour will unite various sectors and bring about positive outcomes.
