Experimental Production Trial of Black Pepper, Cinnamon, and Mint Initiates in Aroaima Savannah

Aroaima Savannah in Region Ten has commenced the production trial for three spices: black pepper, cinnamon, and mint. Spearheaded by the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), the initiative aims to explore and expand the cultivation of these aromatic herbs, potentially opening new avenues for agricultural growth in the region. Recently, NAREI organized a productive meeting with local farmers at the Kokerite Bush Concession. The meeting served as a platform for knowledge sharing, as experts from NAREI provided valuable insights on the cultivation techniques and market potential for black pepper, cinnamon, and mint. In addition to the exciting developments in spice production, NAREI also made a generous donation of 1,000 pounds of turmeric. This valuable contribution serves as a testament to NAREI's commitment to supporting and empowering farmers. The cultivation of turmeric provides yet another opportunity for diversification in agricultural practices, allowing farmers to explore new markets and capitalize on the growing demand for this versatile and sought-after spice. The donation not only provides immediate resources for the farmers but also serves as an inspiration for future agricultural initiatives and collaborations in the region. The cultivation of additional agricultural products in Guyana, including the cultivation of spices, aligns with the government's steadfast commitment to significantly contribute to the regional initiative of achieving a 25 percent increase in agricultural output by 2025. By diversifying agricultural practices and expanding production capabilities, Guyana aims to strengthen its position as a key player in the regional agricultural landscape, fostering economic growth and food security for its citizens.
