Ethiopian Airlines to potentially fly Guyana route

Africa’s largest airline, Ethiopian Airlines, and the world’s fourth largest relative to countries served worldwide, has a network of 125 destinations per domestic and international connections. With ‘Destination Guyana’ being propelled, the carrier has expressed interest in serving the Guyana aviation and tourism sectors. As a member of the renowned Star Alliance - the world's largest league of global aviation partners, the airline boasts a fleet of more than 144 modern aircraft at an average age of five years,which serves 131 international passenger and cargo destinations and an expansive air connectivity among Africa and Asia. Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, revealed that engagements with the airline are underway this month with Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States, Samuel Hinds having begun discussions. Ethiopian Airlines is a multi-award-winning airline with accolades ranging from Skytrax’s Four-Star Airline Certification and Best Airline in Africa. It is believed that with these desirable achievements by carriers around the globe, Guyana may benefit from yet another air service agreement. In accordance with this, Guyana has copped air service agreements with Canada, Ghana, Nigeria, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Notably, Guyana has in recent times exchanged agreements with InterCaribbean Airways as in 2021, began offering flights to approximately 30 destinations within the Caribbean region. Within the first quarter of 2023, United Kingdom’s flag carrier, British Airways is slated to serve Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
