Construction of five new regional hospitals in Guyana set to begin as land preparation concludes at all sites

To improve healthcare accessibility, government to build top-tier hospitals in six Guyanese regions: Anna Regina, De Kinderen, Bath, Number 75 Village, Diamond, and Enmore. Dr. Frank Anthony, the Minister of Health, gave an update on these facilities and informed the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the site development for all facilities has been finished. According to the Minister, “The contractor has taken over several of the sites and very shortly, we’ll start seeing work being started at each of these sites. A lot of progress has been made. The designs are almost complete. So, we’ll start seeing construction in a short period.” The world-class hospitals, each spanning 65,000 square feet and featuring 75 hospital beds, will provide quality care within patients' own regions, eliminating the need to travel to Georgetown Public Hospital. Progress is also being made on the state-of-the-art Pediatric and Maternal Hospital, which will be built at Ogle by Australian company VAMED for $12.4 billion. Equipped with 256 beds, the facility is projected to be commissioned by 2025 as part of the modern healthcare system envisioned by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali's administration. In Budget 2023, the government has allocated $84.9 billion to boost the health sector.
