Business clinic accelerates issuance of tourism permits

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) hosted the first tourism business clinic, effectively expediting the processing of documentation and licences for tourism businesses as part of the one-stop-shop approach. All in one location, the business clinic assembled several national tourism agencies with responsibility for issuance, particularly those from Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six. Held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) on Wednesday, Managing Director of Karanambu Lodge and President of Visit Rupununi, Melanie McTurk acknowledged, “For persons outside of Georgetown, one of the biggest challenges to regularisation has been the centralisation of services, the cost, and time it takes to get to all of these services.” Meanwhile, Kamrul Baksh, Director of GTA highlighted that the one-stop-shop is impactful, given that the GTA has received direct feedback from tourism businesses on the initiative, and that a higher level of awareness on documentation procedures may be achieved. Baksh noted that the business clinic will be significantly impactful since GTA has already received positive feedback. Out of ten (10) licensing agencies who conducted the business clinic procedures, the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Environmental Protection Agency, Guyana Fire Service, Guyana Lands and Survey Commission, and the National Insurance Scheme were present.
