Barbados Agro Fest 2023 attracts more than 42 local businesses for participation
Agro Fest 2023 in Barbados is currently underway and this year over 42 Guyanese businesses are participating, including farmers, agro-processors, furniture manufacturers, arts and crafts producers and jewelers. The delegation is being led by Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Chief Investment Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment. Export Guyana, a division of Guyana Invest, is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, and Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association to facilitate Guyana's participation in the event. During the festival, the Guyanese businesses will participate in B2B sessions and engage with other businesses and business support organizations in Barbados. The Barbados Manufacturers Association, Barbados National Cultural Foundation, Barbados Coalition of Service Inc., and Export Barbados will deliver presentations during the sessions. Moreover, two Guyanese businesses are expected to sign agreements with key distribution companies in Barbados. The participation of Guyana in Agro Fest was initiated in 2022 after the signing of the St. Barnabas Accord between Guyana and Barbados. Agro Fest aims to showcase the relationship between agriculture and the community while reinforcing the importance of agriculture in feeding and providing economic support to families. It also highlights the impact of agriculture on other economic sectors. Last year, over 45 Guyanese businesses participated in Agro Fest, with President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali leading the delegation. The President was accompanied by Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond, and Dr. Ramsaroop. During the event, President Ali delivered the feature address at the opening ceremony, where he and Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing their nations together with many projects in several areas, including hospitality, import-substitution, food security, and agricultural diversification.
