AG leads Guyana Delegation at Caribbean Financial Action Task Force

Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, S.C. is scheduled to lead the Guyana delegation at the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) 55th. Plenary and Working Group Meetings. The delegation, Dr. Gobind Ganga, Governor of the Central Bank; Matthew Langevine, Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit; Alicia Williams, Head of Compliance – FIU; Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh – Head of the Special Organized Crime Unit; Natasha Backer – Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions and Rommel St. Hill, Anti Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Officer in the Attorney General’s Office, is present within the Cayman Islands until December 1, 2022. Guyana’s fourth mutual evaluation, undergoing preparatory works for 2023, is swiftly approaching especially with the Plenary’s opening tomorrow, November 30, 2022. This Plenary will assemble a Heads of FIU forum, a working group of FATF issues, International Cooperation Review Group, Steering Group, and CFATF Risks Trends and Methods Group. The mutual evaluation will uncover key summaries of the anti-money laundering/combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) measures, comprising techniques, trends and recommendations. As countries gather, each will be presented with the opportunity to share their perspectives on their Draft Mutual Evaluation Report, identify areas for improvement which are open to comment, and any updates arising from meetings with the FATF.
